Was portal 2 game of the year

Stephen Merchant delivered a tour-de-force performance. Magic Mushroom Member. Oct 25, 7, It's a very good game but not as good as the first and certainly not as good as the more influential GOAT contender Dark Souls. Antrax Member.

Skyrim to me. Over hours in that game I get about out of each character , and it still feels so comfortable to start again. Happily got all the achievements for the original version and the remaster. Portal 2 is good though. Great story. I wish the puzzles were a bit harder in the sense that you figure out the puzzle pretty fast the only one that got me stuck for awhile was a puzzle that just needed quick mechanics, which I'm not great at.

It was so focused. Oct 27, 3, Absolutely not. The initial change of setting was refreshing but the later parts were visually unimpressive. Linus Member. Oct 29, 12, No, Skyrim did. Alexszz Member. Waiting for the eventual "Did Ocarina of Time deserve to be 's game of the year" thread.

And yes, Portal 2 was great. Deleted member Banned. Oct 27, 12, Absolutely yes. It is a fantastic game that still holds up today, with great story and strong puzzles.

Azzanadra Member. Oct 25, 3, Canada. Dark Souls is my retroactive pick, but Portal 2 is a great choice 2. Anything but Skyrim, really. Jay Shadow Member. Oct 28, 2, Dark Souls and Skyrim had a bigger long term impact, but Portal 2 would still be my pick at that time. Berto Member. Yes, either it or Dark Souls.

While the previous 12 months brought plenty of exciting games, we'd suggest that is looking like a bumper year. As gets underway we've taken the liberty of rounding up some upcoming Switch game highlights dropping in January and February; it's typically a quieter period in game releases, but Nintendo is partially bucking that trend.

And it's a pretty strong lineup of games. Persona 5 Strikers may be niche, but it's quite beloved. Meanwhile, Deep Rock Galactic is not only a popular game, but it's brand new to PlayStation consoles after being console exclusive to Xbox. Lastly, there's Dirt 5, which may not be for everyone being a racing game, but it is one of the better games in the genre since its release alongside the PS5 back in Again, it's a pretty strong lineup of games, but it's not the lineup some subscribers in the Middle East have been getting.

By experience, online gaming is perhaps the best way to keep friends around and build new bonds. Here are Steam's most popular games of Another year, another massive year for Steam. The Game Awards has a pick. In singleplayer, Portal 2 is a finely scripted sitcom starring a woman, a robot and a potato. In co-op, it's a slapstick buddy comedy, with both players as comic foil and GLaDOS as your straight man.

When either of us would screw up, Tom and I wouldn't yell or criticise one another — we left that to Owen and Tim, who were playing at the same time. Instead, we'd laugh, sometimes make P-Body and Atlas high-five, and leave my brain to find reasons to be paranoid on its own. Having a friend along cancels out all the loneliness you feel in Portal 2's singleplayer. It's a deliberate part of that experience that Chell is isolated amidst the world of test chambers, but it's not always a relaxing way to spend a few hours in the way the co-operative mode can be.

We got a scuffed-up, messier experience that resonated more deeply than any other game this year. Let's see. Heart-ificial Intelligence: Portal 2 pulled off an amazing role reversal: it made the humans playing it feel like computers and the dueling AIs vying for control feel human. And, at the end of the single-player portion, I felt like a problem-solving machine, electric and sharp, able to coolly think my way out of the game's inscrutable puzzle rooms. Broken Beauty: Portal 2 fractured the clean minimalism of its predecessor and created a different kind of splendor by peeling back Aperture Science's gleaming white layers.

Playing through the grimy, rusted-over past of the research firm didn't just introduce cool new mechanics. Invisible Woman: I wanted Portal 2 to create more of a connection to the series' mute heroine Chell.

It's great that other, newer characters get fleshed-out backstories, but that just makes it harder to care the character I'm controlling when she remains a near-total cipher. Slightly Off-Key: A game's theme song usually doesn't count for much in overall scheme of things. But, c'mon, this is Portal , the series that gave us "Still Alive.

Sadly, "Want You Gone" did nothing for me, even after repeated listens. I loved the crap out of Portal 2. It was a triumph, a huge success; I'm making a note here, etc. It is an entirely worthy candidate for GOTY, even though in the end I didn't choose it for my own nomination.

Here's what I think:. High-larious - Portal 2 was the funniest game of
